The inquest into the death of an 80-year-old man who died after his car crashed over Marine Drive, in Douglas, has been opened and adjourned.
Coroner of Inquests Jayne Hughes heard William Alan Harrison suffered serious injuries when his car left the road at the beauty spot on April 13 and landed on the beach below.
The retired Isle of Man Tours worker also had heart disease and had suffered a blockage to the coronary artery.
Mrs Hughes adjourned the inquest, for a date yet to be announced, and passed her condolences to Mr Harrison’s friends and family, in particular his wife Jean.
It was reported by the police at 7.30pm on Monday, April 13 that a car had left the coastal road at the Port Soderick end.
It was later confirmed just after 9pm that a helicopter had been called in to take Mr Harrison to hospital.
After being airlifted, Mr Harrison was treated at Noble’s Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit where he died on April 14.
