Mark Kermode, the UK’s leading movie critic, and Katharina Kubrick, daughter of acclaimed producer and director Stanley Kubrick, are the headline guests at this year’s Isle of Man Film Festival.
The festival, now in its seventh year, runs from September 5 to 9.
Festival organiser Dave Armstrong said: ’We are so fortunate to be able to welcome our patron and friend Mark Kermode back to the island.
’This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the remarkable 2001: A Space Odyssey.
’To be able to screen this masterpiece in the 4k ultra HD format is something I have been looking forward to, and to be able to welcome Katharina Kubrick as our special guest is an honour.
’I am also delighted that so much Manx musical talent will share the Gaiety stage with Mark for what will be a fantastic evening and a highlight of our festival programme.’
Mark Kermode, The Observer columnist and BBC movie critic, is also patron of Isle of Man Film Festival. He will present the ’Movies, Music and Mark Kermode’ event at the Gaiety Theatre on Saturday, September 8.
It’s an exclusive preview of his UK tour, called ’How does it feel?’ in which he recounts his life-long love of music and movies.
In the second part of the show, as part of the Year of Our Island celebrations, top Isle of Man musicians including Mae Challis and the Katie Lawrence Children’s Choir will re-imagine their favourite movie songs, with relevant film clips introduced by Mark.
After the show, Mark will be signing advance copies of his autobiography which is also titled, ’How does it feel?’
The festival concludes on Sunday, September 9 with the popular International Short Film screenings and Awards Gala evening at The Broadway Cinema.
