The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wintry showers and ice.

This evening’s forecast:

Showers will affect the island this evening becoming frequent and heavy at times, and turning increasingly wintry over higher ground later.

They’ll move through fairly quickly on the strong to gale force north to northwest wind and will become more isolated during the early hours of tomorrow morning. Turning very cold overnight though with temperatures falling near to freezing in many places giving a risk of ice.

After a cold and icy start to the day, tomorrow will be a dry day with prolonged spells of sunshine.

Although still feeling cold in the strong north to northwest wind which will fall light during the afternoon with highs only around 5 or possibly 6°C at best. A further risk of frost or icy patches tomorrow evening as temperatures drop off quickly after dusk, but recovering later in the night as cloud spreads across the island and the wind settles to the south.

Friday will be cloudy with a band of rain spreading from the west during the morning, perhaps falling as sleet over higher ground initially. Becoming windy once more with a strong south to southeast wind. Maximum temperate of 7°C.
