A minute’s silence was held this week by Douglas Council in remembrance of road racing star William Dunlop.

Before the July sitting of Douglas Borough Council began, Mayor Jonathan Joughin asked members to observe the silence.

He asked councillors to stand in recognition of ’the great sadness of another tragic loss for the Dunlop family’.

The Mayor offered the condolences of the council to Mr Dunlop’s family and the community of Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, with which the island’s capital is twinned.

William Dunlop died last week after a crash during practice for the Skerries 100 in County Dublin.
