Women who became mothers just before lockdown 2020 have been keeping in touch during this year’s lockdowns for support.
Mothers of 15 babies last year set up a Facebook page and have remained connected by supporting each other throughout the last year and a half. It’s now got 25 members.
They were all planning a get together this week for Mother’s Day, but it was cancelled due to the circuit-breaker.
One of the mums, Breisha Subachus, said: ’To be at home on your own all day with a baby at the best of times is difficult, as obviously not being able to get out and see family and friends can be hard - especially when it’s your first baby.
’I missed my nine-month check-up due to lockdown - and a lot of weigh-ins and other things cannot be done. If you have a concern, you can ask other mums any time.
’It’s been nice to have that bit of support that we’re missing from the outside world and we all have each other.’
For Mother’s Day the group created a photo collage as a substitute for not being able to meet up, with all the babies wearing matching ’Lockdown Baby Mama’ jumpers.
Breisha added: ’As we’ve missed a lot of baby showers and things, it’s been nice to celebrate in other ways.
’The midwives’ home visits are great and they say to call them if we need help, but little things like if babies get a cold where you can’t take them to the doctors, it’s lovely to have the support of friends who can share their own similar experiences.
’It can be lonely being a new mum and my husband’s a key worker, so it’s nice to be able to talk to someone who will always be able to offer support, it’s a really good crutch.’
