A group of BAC Monos were in the island this week for a publicity event including a public display in Castletown.
The high velocity supercars returned to the island after a documentary filming and Manx police borrowing one received worldwide coverage last year.
The cars are built by Briggs Automotive Company, based in Speke, Liverpool, and became famous for becoming the first fully road legal single-seated super carin 2011.
It was the same year that the early model was named Top Gear ’Stig’s car of the year’.
Minister for the Department of Education, Sport and Culture, Graham Cregeen MHK (Arbory, Castletown and Malew) spoke to the drivers in Castletown during their display.
He said: ’They’ve learned bits about the island.
’They go all over Europe so the exposure is good for the island, I hope they enjoyed themselves.’
While here, the drivers experienced a taste of the world famous Manx roads following a briefing from police.
Minister of the Department for Enterprise Laurence Skelly MHK (Rushen) also spoke to the group and further welcomed the group and exposure for the island.
He explained the relationship between BAC and the island came about because of an international business festival .
Mr Skelly said: ’The group fund themselves to come and we publicise the visit.
’The cars are obviously expensive and have select owners, but the island welcomes the business it brings.
’We have made business connections because of these trips and these types of events on further benefit the island.’
The BAC Mono costs about £125,000, can reach speeds of over 170mph, can do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, has 350bhp and a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine.
