Hundreds of dance students both young and old will hit the stage next weekend for an exciting and unique show.

More than 200 dancers from the ’Move It!’ dance school will perform ’Move it to the Rescue’, on Friday and Saturday, December 4 and 5, at the Gaiety Theatre, from 7pm, with a matinee performance on Saturday, from 2.30pm.

’Move it to the Rescue’ has been written by the team of instructors from the Douglas-based dance studios and will feature Emma Louise Taylor, a ’Move It’ dance student, take the lead as ’Phoenix’, a superhero who gains her powers and leads the fight against the evil bad guy ’Mr Wolfe’, played by Sophie Hindson.

Having begun to work on the show at the start of the year, the team were forced to move their preparations online after the lockdown was announced.

Director Kate Caine said that the dancers, who vary in age, between two and 60 years old, learned their routines over online Zoom sessions and, after the initially-fraught preparations, they are excited to be finally bringing their show to the stage.

’It’s been a little more difficult this year for obvious reasons,’ said Kate.

’However staff and students have all tackled the situation like true heroes.

’In fact we taught a few of our dances over Zoom in lockdown, including our pre-schoolers which is pretty awesome.

’We decided to keep our students engaged and our staff continued more than 20 classes a week via live streaming and zoom calls.

’This really paid off as we came back to class like we have never been away excited to put the show together.’

Despite the on-going situation across the water throwing up problems in hosting the show, such as having a lack of costumes, dance shoes, technical staff and set design, Kate and her team are keen to get the show on the stage.

’We haven’t let something like a global pandemic hold us back,’ she said.

’We hope the Manx public will get on board with supporting this locally-produced, never-seen-before spectacular that is full of laughter, character and very cute baby superheroes in capes.

’It will be a fun night out for all the family.’

l Tickets for the show are priced from £16 and are available online from villagaiety.com
