Many of the island’s musicians and local bands will come together to pay tribute to the life of a young woman who died last week.

A special fund-raising concert has been organised by friends of Jana Storey to remember her and also to raise money to help her family and also for mental health charities.

The ’Celebration of the life of Jana Na Na Storey’ night takes place at the Basement bar, Wellington Street, Douglas, on Saturday, October 26, from and will feature 10 acoustic, rap and rock groups.

It has been organised by musician and friend Michael Cowley, who said that Jana’s tragic death has left many people shocked and heartbroken.

’Jana Storey was much loved and bright person who had never a bad word to say about anyone,’ said Michael.

’When I heard from her mother, who I work with, I was stunned. It was a massive shock.

’I shared this with my band mates, and we decided to put together an event to celebrate Jana’s life, with as many bands as possible, as she was great friends with a lot of the bands on the island.

The acts Mark Firth, Matt Kelly, Mad Daddy, Slow Decay, Zoe Trollag, Last Drags Han-FX, Mid Life Cypher and Skeetz, along with Michael’s punk group Crotch Lice, which Jana particularly liked, will all appear. Also Soundcheck and Phil Reynolds will provide the PA system, and the Basement bar are also donating the band fee to the night.

Michael said that the money raised on the night would go to Jana’s family, and there would also be the chance to donate to the Samaritans through a Justgiving page set up in Jana’s name.

’I want to raise the awareness and talk to some charities to come down on the night, and maybe have them speak,’ said Michael.

’If any other relevant charities would like to get involved, feel free to get in touch via Facebook, and we’ll sort it out.

Jana, 26, took her own life late last month, which has left friends and family distraught.

’She had her problems in life, like we all do, but things like this shouldn’t be happening,’ he said.

’We should be able to spot things in people these days and do something about it. We’ve all had problems and we’ve all been there. Just help everyone you know, listen to your friends, and don’t just shrug them off and tell them to get a grip. It’s not always the case.

’I don’t want Jana to become the face of something like this, but this is how she died, it needs to be raised and it needs to be talked about.’

This weekend, rapper Han-FX has said that he will donate the proceed of his concert, ’Hip Hop on the rock’, also held at the Basement Bar tomorrow night (Friday), and there will also be ’Sing For Jana’, an evening of music at Sam Webbs on Saturday evening.
