Manx Wild Bird Aid has issued warnings about birds nesting on the island.

The charity is reminding people that once a bird has started building a nest, that nest is legally protected and must not be removed until the bird is no longer using it.

The charity said: ’If you don’t want birds nesting on your roof or in your attic, you must act now to deter them, before they start building nests.

’Check your property for any storm damage that may give them access and have it repaired now.

’Once birds start taking nesting material in you must leave them in peace to lay eggs and raise their babies, even if it causes you annoyance or inconvenience, or you could be prosecuted under the Wildlife Act 2006.’

It added: ’Pigeons and doves are already nesting, and their babies often get blown out of their nests during storms.

’Remember, unlike songbirds, pigeons and doves should not leave the nest until they can fly, and if they’re on the ground unable to fly they need help.

’So keep your eyes open, check your garden and get in touch if you find any babies in need of help.’
