Audiences attending a theatre and arts venue in the south of the island will be greeted by two laughing jesters and a new piece of especially commissioner stained-glass.

The Kings Court theatre at the King William’s College, has given its theatre bar something of a face-lift, prior to beginning its series of summer live screenings.

Two local craftsmen were recruited to create two separate pieces to hang in the area, with metal fabricator Richard Hilton, from Hilton Metal designs, creating the two large jesters masks that will hang over the doorway, and a stained glass window, created by glass artist Robert Bullock, that will hang over the new bar area.

Both pieces were commissioned by the theatre head David Dawson, who wanted to add some stand out pieces of local crafts in the area.

’We decided that we wanted some stained glass work and also to have these pretty stunning, unique metal jesters masks too,’ said David.

’We also wanted to use all local crafts men, and I was lucky to find Robert and Richard.

’We had funding from SMP Partners, who sponsor our live screenings, and we wanted to promote the arts more, which we though the glass and the masks would help us to do.’

’The theatre is up and running again, and we are having our summer series of live concert and theatre screenings beginning again soon.’

The next production to be shown at the theatre will be the Royal Opera House’s performance of Swan Lake, on Sunday, June 17, followed by screened versions of Macbeth, from the National Theatre, and Romeo and Juliet, performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company on Wednesday, July 18.

It is also showing two musicals, An American in Paris on Friday, July 6 and Everyone’s Talking about Jamie on Thursday, July 12.

Saving the grandest until last, the final screening will be a live concert of André Rieu performing in Maastricht, which will be shown on Saturday, July 28.
