You can now ‘have your fill’ at a new shop in Castletown.

Uncle Fill’s, in Arbory Street, sells a wide range of beans, spices, muesli and grains that you weigh and measure, cutting down on packaging as far as possible.

Kylie Rollins and her partner, Tom Roe from the Secret Pizza, are behind the new venture:

‘I’ve basically opened the shop that I want to shop in,’ said Kylie.

Their aim has been to make it ‘as close to a zero waste shop’ as possible.

Along with the food there are racks of vintage clothing and a range of fill-your-own cosmetics and household cleaning products.

Tom Skillen and Kylie’s brother Kieran are also partners in the new business, even though the latter lives in Vancouver.

Kylie said: ‘Kieran is helping us with the IT, setting up the tills, and it’s been really great to be chatting to him because we don’t know when we’ll next see him.

‘He’s also helped with the concept of the shops as zero waste shopping is a big deal in

Vancouver.’

Kylie explained a little more about the shop’s ethos: ‘We just wanted people to think about the impact of fashion and cosmetics and testing products on animals and make people more aware of how they shop.

‘The most important thing for us is that it’s better to have a lot of people changing only 5% of what they do to help the environment than just a few changing a lot.’

‘But it’s also about making people welcome so they feel they can just come in and have a chat.’
