Castle Rushen High School student Niamh Watterson has donated 12 inches of her magnificent hair to The Little Princess Trust and raised £105 in sponsorship for the charity.
Niamh, aged 11, has been ill over the last year with pancreatitis requiring extensive treatment and stays in hospital, most recently four weeks in Alder Hey after a cyst was drained.
She has unfortunately had several general anaesthetics in the last few months and is facing another in the near future.
Despite this, she realised during her extended stays in hospital that there are some children more poorly than her and wanted to do something to help them.
Her hair was cut by CRHS support worker Sharon Taylor and Niamh hopes that a sick child will benefit from a wig made from her long locks.
A spokesman from the school said Niamh’s colleagues and staff members were very proud of her.
