A pupil from Scoill Phurt le Moirrey, Port St Mary, has donated £350 to the Graih charity in Douglas.

Elliott Reynolds has presented a cheque to Graih, which supports people without permanent homes, after raising money through a ’dress down day’ he had organised at his primary school.

The nine-year-old wanted to spread awareness of the issue after seeing homeless people on a trip to London.

His mother, Andrea Reynolds, said: ’He was genuinely shocked that people slept on the pavement and asked if he could give money.’

Elliott has also arranged for local businesses to donate supplies, including Mann Vend and Isle of Man Creamery which have given the charity milk, tea and coffee. He is currently looking for a business to give regular donations of cleaning products.

Michael Manning, the charity’s coordinator, said: ’We’ve been blown away by Elliott’s generosity and his desire to help and get involved.

’He’s an amazing example of how children can show leadership and he, and his mum, have been fantastic.’

The homeless charity will receive donations from a musical concert, Lesh Shee As Graih, that will take place at 7pm in St Ninian’s Church tonight. Tickets cost £5.
