Two lifelong friends successfully attempted to pull a horse tram along Douglas promenade and back for charity.
Isaac Sanderson and George Crellin, both aged 20 from St John’s, pulled the tram 3.2 miles raising a total of £595 for the Meningitis Research Foundation, boosting their overall total to more than £3,000.
Isaac, a psychology student from Aston University in Birmingham, said: ’We chose to do the horse tram challenge because it used to be an event done in the 80s and 90s and we thought that it would be an interesting challenge which had a Manx culture ingrained in it.’
George, who is an apprentice at the Steam Packet Company, helped Isaac with his challenge.
The first half mile was the toughest for the men but on their way back they broke into a jog.
Their tactic was to keep the momentum on the tram going which allowed them to use less energy.
Isaac continued: ’The atmosphere was great as everyone was so supportive. The public at the promenade cheered us the whole way and people were filming and taking photos as we went passed. Cars were even stopping in the road to donate and beeping and cheering as they drove off.’
Isaac is carrying on his charity work for Meningitis, as he will be heading up to Tanzania to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro this year. The charity funds into research and awareness of Meningitis and Septicaemia.
