Time is running out to give recognition to a police officer that has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Isle of Man Newspapers’ Community Police Officer of the Year gives readers the chance to give police officers a well-deserved pat on the back.

Since nominations opened in January, officers across the island have been recognised for making a real difference to the communities they serve.

Isle of Man Newspapers’ editor Richard Butt said: ’The annual award is our way of giving recognition and saying thank you to the very best officers in the island. If you know of an officer who deserves public recognition for their work please get in touch.’

Nominees include constable Gemma Berry, who was nominated by Port Erin resident Pauline Lunn to thank her for her compassion and kindness helping a family member.

Peel Constable Ali Stokes was nominated by QEII teacher Joanna Steriopolus for her work in the school.

Ramsey Constables Dave Williams and Claire Craine have been recognised by the owners of a Ramsey guest house for their support investigating an incident of damage at their property.

And Constable David Schumacher was nominated by the family of a young boy with cerebral palsy after he organised a birthday treat for him.

Last year’s winners, constables Paddy Moore and Michael Griffiths, have again been nominated by several people.

The deadline for nominations is May 10, after which a judging panel at Isle of Man Newspapers will choose the winner. The officer who is awarded the title will receive a trophy at the Chief Constable’s Awards ceremony, at the Gaiety Theatre in July.

Officers can be of any rank and those who have been nominated in previous years can be put forward again.
