A necklace belonging to Peel Castle’s Pagan Lady is going on display in York.

The necklace was excavated from a grave in Peel Castle during an archaeological dig in the 1980s.

It will form part of a collection of significant objects loaned from MNH to York Archaeologist Trust which will go on display at Jorvik Viking centre and museum.

The burial of the Pagan Lady over 1,000 years ago is important because it illustrates the high status of some women in an age traditionally associated with male dominance.
