A new video service is planned for this year’s Parish Walk for relatives and friends of walkers to watch them cross the finish line.
Organisers are aiming to provide video clips of every finisher as they cross the line on Douglas promenade at the end of the 85-mile challenge. Online results for each finisher will be linked to video content on YouTube.
The news was one of a number of additional digital technology features announced at the official launch event for the walk, which was held at Manx Telecom’s headquarters.
Other announcements at the launch included:
l An archway at the finish line will feature the official time clock and a new LED matrix display with additional results information provided by Manx Timing Solutions;
l Plans for a new mobile app to make it even easier for friends, family and supporters to follow the race on their mobiles. The mobile interface is being developed by Manx Telecom in collaboration with Manx Timing Solutions.
Manx Telecom chief executive Gary Lamb, who is taking part in the event, said: ’This is our eighth year as the Parish Walk’s title sponsor, and every year we look for new ways to support race director Ray Cox and his magnificent organising team to make it even bigger and better.
’Digital technology offers fantastic opportunities for even greater community engagement, and we’re looking forward to seeing these new features enhancing enjoyment for walkers and spectators.’
The deadline to enter is midnight on Sunday, May 5. See www.parishwalk.com
Walkers can take part in the event on June 22 as individuals or sign up for one of the two team categories (corporate team and overall team) and there’s an event for under-21s.
