A parent has set himself a target of running 100km this month to raise money for a Douglas primary school.

Paul Speller, 49, is raising the money for the school association at Henry Bloom Noble Primary, to spend on activities, events and equipment to support wellbeing for the pupils.

Freelance writer and journalist Paul, who is on the committee of the school association, said: ’The past 15 months have highlighted how important wellbeing is for children and how crucial it is for all other aspects of education.

’The three lockdowns have meant the association’s usual fundraising activities - to pay for things not covered in the education budget - have been very limited.

’I want to raise money so we can continue to support the school and make sure the children don’t miss out on the kinds of activities and events that help make HBN a happy place.’

He added: ’During the lockdowns, I found that running really helped with my own sense of wellbeing, so it felt appropriate to choose that as a way of raising money.’
