A new performance car and bike event has been announced for Jurby Airfield.
The event, titled ’Race the Rock’, is set for the first weekend in April and is being organised by UK-based company Straightliners.
Straightliners’ Tom Burns said: ’You are guaranteed passion and lots of horse power at "Race the Rock".
’In fact, there is no event like it in the United Kingdom.
’You can expect plenty of noise, smoke and top action as powerful drag cars and bikes take to the recently resurfaced strip and revamped venue.’
The Straightliners team has held drag racing events in previous years at Jurby.
The four days of action run from Saturday, April 7, until Tuesday, April 10.
All vehicle types are welcome to take part on Saturday and Sunday and the Purple Helmets will be performing ’at speeds approaching 100 miles per hour’ at 1pm on Sunday.
Monday will be a track day at the airfield with individual timed laps, although this is only open to cars.
Tuesday will see side-by-side top speed runs over the half a mile of Jurby Airfield’s main runway open to cars and bikes.
The prize presentation till take place that evening.
Straightliners founder Trevor Duckworth explained: ’As well as fantastic track action spectators and participants can take some time out at the Jurby Motor Museum.
’We have teamed up with Jurby Motor Museum to stage this event and we hope to make Race the Rock an annual attraction to the Isle of Man for motorsports fans.
’We are also expecting to attract many motorsport fans and competitors from the UK and Ireland, in fact we already have interest from some of the top car clubs in the UK.’
The company is no stranger to the island.
It also organises Ramsey Sprint and has help previous drag events at Jurby although this is the first time a track day type event has been organised.
Straighteners events are open to anybody providing they have the correct licence, correct gear and their machine passes scrutinising.
