A photographic competition with a top prize of £100 in vouchers is being held by Rushen Heritage Trust. The theme is a favourite view in the parish and the winner is chosen by public vote.
First held last year, the winner was Rowanna Miller from Port Erin.
Organisers hope at least some of the entries are taken by walkers who are being guided using one of the trust’s apps, which can be download from www.isleofmanwalks.com.
All entries will be shown on the the trust’s website and social media pages, where people can vote for their favourite image. As last year, the winner will also be on the front of the calendar with runners up inside.
The app was officially launched last October with three heritage walks in Port St Mary, Port Erin and from Port St Mary to the Sound along the Raad Ny Foillan, where special beacons have been placed at specific waypoints along the route.
The app shows photographs, films and audio pieces about the local area, from facts about wildlife and nature to memories of history and heritage.
The competition marks the start of another exciting year for the trust, which is planning to expand the walking app as well as beginning a special project celebrating 100 years of Port St Mary, where local residents will be invited to share their memories and stories.
The trust will also launch a new publication about women’s internment in Rushen during the Second World War and produce two entertainment shows based on the Pierrot shows, enjoyed in the area in previous centuries.
The deadline for competition entries is Monday, April 17 and voting is between April 21 and May 5; the winner is announced on Monday, May 8. Submitted entries at www.isleofmanwalks.com/photography-competition
