A company is applying for planning permission (21/00794/C) to use a Douglas community hall as a dance studio.
Dynamic Dance Centre Ltd has expressed an interest in buying the Lena Quaye Hall at the northern corner of Hutchinson Square, which is on the market for £250,000.
It plans to refurbish the 1940s building and update its current function rooms and facilities ’to allow a variety of activities to take place.
The business would plan to be open for dance tuition classes for children and adults during the hours of 6am to 10pm throughout the week.
The hall’s most recent use was as a meeting space for the Ladies Freemasons.
It has also hosted social events and been hired out to local clubs.
Dynamic Dance Centre said that it has been looking for a suitable property to buy and expand the business for some time, and that the hall was a good venue because it had safe access for children.
Addressing concern about noise, an accompanying statement from the company said: ’We provide a dance education, so we do not have music constantly playing.
’Our students are focussed on furthering their knowledge and ability, with some pursuing dance as a career.
’Therefore, we would not be playing it extremely loudly either as it is not beneficial to the students at all.’
