An appeal has been lodged against planners’ refusal of a plan to redevelop the Bay View Hotel, in Port St Mary.

Red Pen Limited, of Ballakilley Farm in Port St Mary, applied (17/00976/B) to demolish the former pub and build three flats along with on-site parking and garages.

The application was turned down by government planners, who said that the height of the proposed building, the balconies and the design of the windows would ’not sit comfortably in the streetscene’.

In the appeal request, Red Pen Ltd states that it disagrees with that reason.

Planners also said that the current building ’contributes positively to the character of the village’ and that it had not been demonstrated that the principal walls could not be retained and the building renovated instead of demolished.

In its request, Red Pen said it wants to submit additional information to ’demonstrate that it is not feasible to retain the existing building’.

Port St Mary Commissioners had said that it supported the redevelopment of the Bay View Hotel in principle but said the proposal was over-intensive.
