A landmark Douglas pub could be set for a major revamp if owners Heron and Brearley can gain approval from planners.
The brewer has applied (19/00808/GB) to convert the upper rooms of the Queen’s Hotel public house into 10 four star hotel bedrooms.
The company plans to make renovations to all levels of the building, mostly on the upper floors.
Its plans include renovating the first, second and third floor to provide the 10 bedrooms with the upper floor being used for manager’s accommodation.
All rooms would be en-suite with space provided for an office and a linen closet on the second floor.
The railings on the front of the building would be retained and repaired. However, the entire roof would be replaced in natural slate to the original details aside from small changes made to skylights.
Heron and Brearley said the works would be ’similar’ to the renovations carried out on the George Hotel in Castletown Square.
To accommodate the plans, the kitchen which is currently on the first floor would be relocated to the ground floor. Some work would be carried out on the bar and the cellar would also be moved to an existing outbuilding.
The dumbwaiter which is used to move food from the current kitchen on the first floor will also be removed and in-filled, with the new wall section made to match the existing finishes.
And the entrance to the hotel rooms would be through a door near the entrance to the ladies toilets with the staircase having work done to ’upgrade it to hotel standard’.
As the Queen’s Hotel is in the Douglas conservation area, the plans are also subject to planning application number 19/00809/CON.
