A proposal to build 10 houses in Jurby can go ahead after government minister Geoffrey Boot overruled a planning committee recommendation against it.
But he has imposed nine conditions.
The application for permission in principle is from Jenson Ltd (18/00029/A) and is for Palm Court and Jurby Garage, Coast Road, Jurby.
Among the conditions imposed by Mr Boot, the Minister for the Environment, Food and Agriculture, is that the application for full approval must be made to his department within two years.
The reason given is: ’To avoid the accumulation of unimplemented planning approvals.’
Other conditions include the need to have details of siting, design, external appearance, means of access and landscaping approved by the Department of the Environment, Food and Agriculture before any work is carried out.
The applicants must also demonstrate a willingness to deal with any potential contamination in the area.
In the appeal, Jenson Ltd pointed out that the garage and surrounding area was unused and not viable to reopen and also revealed more details in relation to its plans.
Jenson Ltd argued: ’The affordable, terraced houses, illustrated on the southern part of the site, would not be out of keeping in the area and would form an entrance to the village from the south, while the larger dwellings in the northern part would complement those in Bretney Road.’
In the application, Jenson Ltd said the plan was to build two pairs of four terraced first-time buyer houses with parking, and two detached houses with garages.
The application had initially been rejected because the site was on land that was not zoned for development in the 1982 development plan.
