Plans for two jet wash units and a dryer facility behind Corkills Garage in Main Road, Onchan, have been reversed at appeal.

Carrera Investments (IOM) Limited was originally granted approval for the development (16/00980/B) in February, with a condition restricting the hours of operation.

But an appeal against approval was lodged by Governors Road residents Gavin and Karen Clague, whose home is immediately behind the proposed site.

They said they did not feel that the original officer’s report ’sufficiently covered’ their concerns and ’dismissed some of them too readily’.

And they said their quality of life would be ’severely compromised’ by the jet washers.

Residents in a number of other neighbouring properties had also raised their concerns about noise and spray from the car wash.

Onchan Commissioners had recommended approval, with a condition about opening hours.

Now, Environment Minister Geoffrey Boot MHK accepted the officer’s recommendation that the appeal be allowed and the decision be reversed.

It was decided the proposed development would ’unacceptably harm residential amenity’, contrary to the Isle of Man Structure Plan 2016.

The planning inspector’s report is available on the Government website.
