Port St Mary Methodist Church, on Athol Street, has submitted plans for alterations to the building.
The proposal (20/00491/B) would include the infilling of an existing opening and formation of a new opening within the boundary wall and the creation of a disabled access ramp. The existing entrance gate would be filled in with a boundary designed to match the existing west facing wall.
That gate would move from its location in front of the church hall entrance to the edge of the building.
This will allow for the ramp, which would run from the opposite end, where there is another gated entrance.
To access the ramp, a new concrete access path would be laid up to the 1:20 ramp with handrails on either side.
The existing path up to the church from the second entrance gate would be improved with a cement ramp that goes up to the main church entrance with a handrail installed.
On Athol Street, the church is proposing that a space near this entrance be changed to disabled parking, however this would need to be agreed with the highways division of the Department of Infrastructure.
The application said: ’The proposed ramps are to generally improve access to the church, as well as providing essential disabled access in accordance with current regulations without impacting on the building.’
