Douglas Council has submitted plans that would allow it to put up a temporary marquee to host annual events.

The council’s application (20/00851/B) is for an area of Noble’s Park referred to as The Boneyard, near the BMX track.

If approved by planners, the marquee would be able to operate from October to January each year and would be available for events around Hop Tu Naa or Christmas.

application

The application is seeking permission for a five-year term beginning this year until 2024. The marquee would be operated by a company called Switched On.

Any event that would be held in the marquee that involved the sale of alcohol or performance of live music would require a separate application to the licensing court with notifications made in Isle of Man Newspapers when these are made and the dates they cover.

The marquee would also require an inspection by the fire service in order for a fire certificate to be issued.

No proposals have been made to alter the ground levels in The Boneyard and no permanent structure is sought with Switched On saying it would intend to erect the marquee no earlier than October 5 and no latter than January 18.

A 24-hour on-site CCTV system would be installed by Switched On and a mobile unit will be located to allow for security personnel to stay overnight in order to monitor the marquee and equipment.

All walkways to the marquee will be illuminated with an emergency flood lighting system in place in case of a loss of power.

Douglas Council and Switched On’s application said that they ’always endeavour to ensure all noise levels are kept to an acceptable level in order to avoid any disturbance for the surrounding houses’.
