An application could see the creation of a first floor extension to provide additional sport and leisure facilities for Peel Football Club.

The application (20/00221/B) has been submitted by the Tommy Clucas Memorial Fund for the football club’s home ground on Douglas Road.

Proposals include an extension to the first floor which will allow the club to enlarge its clubhouse, making it more available for community events such as children’s birthday parties.

The clubhouse could also be available for Western Vikings rugby and Valkyrs hockey teams.

Both teams play at Queen Elizabeth II High School and while they have the use of school facilities, they do not have a clubhouse.

The clubs have approached Peel FC in the past over shared use of their clubhouse after matches. However, due to the size of the room, this has not been possible.

If approved, the fund wants to provide a soft play facility for preschool aged children for up to three-and-a-half days a week.

Any equipment used for the soft play facility would be set up and removed depending on when the sports hall is needed. The club also wants to make changes to access to the upstairs. It hopes this will include a platform lift for wheelchair users and a ’less inclined staircase’.

Other changes include a viewing area above the existing entrance area of the sports hall, including a viewing window which is adjacent to the clubhouse.

Parking is not considered to be an issue at the club as it currently has 20 spaces which is sufficient during the weekdays.

On weekends, players, officials and supporters attending games can use the high school’s car park.

The club is also planning to alter the clubhouse’s flat roof to a sloping one as part of the application, if it can secure sufficient funding for the works.
