Former professional Manx snooker player has submitted plans to use the former southern postal delivery office on the Ronaldsway Industrial Estate to train youngsters.

Trading as The Cue Zone IoM, Mr Hill has applied (19/00458/C) to add an additional use to the commercial facility to a sports or leisure venue.

The facility would operate as a training centre for young people wishing to get involved in snooker, billiards and pool.

As part of this plan the company seek to have ’European qualified coaches’, which it believes would also create tourism opportunities.

To achieve this, it seeks to reignite the inter-island tournaments between the island, Wales, Scotland, England and the Channel Islands.

Unlike most pool or snooker halls, the application said it is not going to be seeking an alcohol licence.

In the application it states: ’There is currently no facility like this which amalgamates all the cue sports together on the Isle of Man or which offers a safe, friendly environment for young people to experience the sport.

’The main body of the club will house snooker tables, whilst the upstairs will be designated for pool.’

The company plans to employ three members of staff, sell snacks and soft drinks as well as a shop that would sell snooker or pool related items.

The opening hours of the club would be from 11am to 11pm. However, this may change when a tournament or competition was taking place there.

Malew Commissioners has confirmed it has no objections to the plans.

The Post Office’s southern sorting office is now based at another building on the industrial estate.
