Plans for two six-storey blocks of flats in Ramsey have been approved subject to the developer agreeing to make a payment in lieu of the shortfall of affordable housing and open space provision.

The planning committee agreed at a meetinglast week to allow the development if Seymar Developments Limited agreed to enter into a legal agreement to secure commuted sum payments for affordable housing provision and shortfall of open space.

The application (17/00870/B), submitted in August 2017, was for two buildings, six storeys each, with a total of 23 apartments on land off Premier Road and Mooragh Promenade.

They will be a mixture of two, three and four bedroom apartments with combined kitchens and living/dining areas, a utility room and at least one en suite bathroom.

The ground floor apartments will include a patio while those on higher floors will have balconies.

Agreement

The agreement is permitted under Section 13 of the Town Country Planning Act (1999) and prevents the need for a new development to include 25% affordable housing.

Affordable housing is a requirement under policy 5 of the Strategic Plan. In this case Seymar Developments would have been required to provide six affordable housing units.
