Planners have given their support for a major £25m redevelopment of a housing estate in the south.
The application (19/00961/B) by Castletown Commissioners is to demolish all 101 homes in the School Hill/Westhill Estate and rebuild it with an additional 32 properties.
The extra homes will be made available as first time buyer houses while the 101 replacement dwellings will remain local authority housing.
During the planning committee meeting, it was confirmed that the existing housing will be demolished in phases to be replaced with new, more modern homes.
Any residents displaced during the demolition and rebuild, will be found suitable temporary housing nearby.
The homes will be built as eco houses and will include solar panels and air source heat pump cylinders.
Chairman of the planning committee Ian Cottier, who was standing in for chairman Tim Baker MHK, said he ’commended Castletown Commissioners on what they have achieved’.
Members passed the application unanimously.
