The ice cream kiosk in the sunken gardens on Douglas Promenade, could get an indoor seating area, if approval is granted by planners.

Douglas Borough Council has submitted the application (20/00073/B) which would see the existing shelter being enclosed with new windows to provide seven tables with a serving counter.

The council plans to install ceiling to floor window panels, which could be opened on one side through a folding mechanism.

The building on Loch Promenade would also be served by an access ramp.

Douglas Council has indicated the new walls that would surround the new windows would be designed and painted to match the existing walls and be in keeping with the shelters which line the promenade.

The local authority has made several changes to the promenade while the Department of Infrastructure’s regeneration scheme has been carried out.

This has included the installation of new bottle filling taps along the promenade, one of which is on the outside of the toilet block near the park.

And the council has also been granted permission to build a statue of the pop group Bee Gees on the Sea Terminal end of the promenade in the space between two sunken gardens.

While the department is responsible for the road network and the sea wall, the council owns the sunken gardens and public facilities and buildings.
