The Isle of Man Islamic Association has submitted plans to convert a building in Douglas into a community centre for worship and socialising.
In its application (20/01064/GB), the charity said the building, on Finch Road, would provide a ’permanent home’ for the association in the island.
The association currently has no single base in the island, instead it hires venues for prayers and for community events.
Most of the building’s use would be from 7pm onwards, with about 12 people using it on a regular basis including four or five during the day. It is estimated that up to 50 people would attend Friday prayers, between 1pm and 2pm, with up to 60 a day attending during Ramadan.
Changes will be made to the building’s entrances and internal layout.
The proposal is also subject to application (20/01065/CON).
