There are more delays for the Douglas Promenade works - and a new diversion for traffic trying to get around the area.

From yesterday (August 19), parking was reinstated on Loch Promenade on both sides of the highway, with all walkway parking removed.

The entrance to the walkway parking is being integrated into the working area, but the southbound traffic lane will continue until next week.

The changes came as final works including highway surfacing began along the 2.6km length of the scheme.

However, according to an update from the My Prom team, the contractor in charge of the works, Auldyn Construction, is ’experiencing some issues with the final surfacing which will result in a short delay in setting up additional traffic management along the promenade.

’These changes include Walpole Avenue reversal of traffic flow, additional traffic lights plus reopening of the two roundels.’

Whether that will cause a delay to the end of the project - pencilled in for the end of September - is not clear.

Once these changes come into effect, drivers will access the ferries via Bath Place or Peveril Square.

All other traffic, including foot passenger drop-off for the ferries and access to the Sea Terminal building will be via Victoria Street.

Church Road Marina will be open to exit off the promenade while Broadway will fully reopen.

Traffic management north of the Empress Hotel will also be less intrusive, with uninterrupted two-way traffic flow alongside the working areas.

Access to side lanes and entrances to flats’ car parks will be maintained except when the final surface course is laid, when access will be prohibited for short periods.

A further schedule of all dates will be released to key stakeholders once known.

The team added: ’All traffic management will be put in place, to not only allow the contractor to complete the scheme, but keep traffic moving whilst maintaining access for residents and customers of all businesses.’
