Plans have been submitted (21/00827/B) to use one of the empty units at the Villa Marina arcade Douglas as a restaurant/bar.

The applicant is company Dazan Ltd, whose registered address is 43 Loch Promenade - that of Jaks Bar.

In the accompanying planning statement, those behind the application said that the restaurant on Harris Promenade would provide ’family-orientated eating and drinking facilities to encourage more activity in and around the theatre and the Villa Marina prior to and after performances, as well as eating and drinking facilities during the remainder of the day’.

Alongside indoor seating, there would be glazed entrances to an enclosed area which would allow for ’an orangery type seating/dining area’.

The promenade footpath would be widened to allow pedestrians to walk around this area.

Its opening hours would be 9am to 1am seven days a week.

The planning statement notes that the restaurant is near other venues which also provide service for those visiting the Villa Marina, such as Sir Norman’s Bar, the Sefton and Harbour Lights Bistro.

It says that no extra parking will need to be provided, as the facility would be in walking distance from Douglas town centre.
