The former Glen Helen Inn on the TT course at Glen Helen, could be demolished and turned into a new tourist venue.

Plans have been submitted (17/01254/B) by Glen Helen Glamping Ltd to replace the former hotel with a single storey welcome centre with cafe as well as 12 family glamping pods.

In the design statement it explains: ’The proposed scheme is to demolish the existing building and clear the site. Tourist accommodation will be catered for with 12 family glamping pods located on the site of the former inn.

’A welcome centre will also be constructed to manage the glamping site as well as providing a multi-function room with cafe facilities that will serve the glamping guests and the wider community visiting this national glen.’

The site, which closed in 2014, is described as a ’white elephant that doesn’t fulfil its intended use and would require substantial further investment’.

The bid is by Glen Helen Glamping Ltd, in association with James Fennell Micro Lodges, who were involved in a scheme by Port Erin Commissioners for 10 glamping pods at Rowany golf club, which was turned down at appeal.
