A former school, which is already a house, could be divided to create two semi-detached homes.
The application (20/01001/GB) by Wren Homes Ltd is for Old School House, Main Road, Sulby.
Sulby Old School dates from 1879 and was built after the 1872 Education Act which made education compulsory for all children in the island.
The school was closed in 1991 when the new school was opened on land donated by Dr Daniel McDonald.
In 1997, full approval was given to convert the school into a home and it was then added to the Protected Buildings Register in April 1998.
In the application’s support documents, it is said that the building structurally remains as it did on the inside. Some changes have been made to its exterior in recent years.
However, modern alterations, including the upper floor, have ’compromised the original school room spaces’.
The plans show that, if approved, a conservatory and chimney stack will be removed and improvements will be made to the vehicle access for the homes.
Inside the building, a masonry wall will be added to divide the properties. Each would have a kitchen, utility room, hallway and living room downstairs and three bedrooms upstairs.
