Despite objections from Douglas Council, Heron and Brearley has now received planning permission to leave its Trackside bar in Noble’s Park.

The retrospective application (18/00590/B) means the brewery can keep the site in place between TT and the Festival of Motorcycling.

As Isle of Man Newspapers has previously reported, Douglas Council had voted to object to the plans on grounds that under the original application (18/00104/B) the site was not to remain in place throughout the summer.

However, under the new application, the site can remain in place from 14 days before the first TT practice day through to 14 days after the final FoM race day.

H&B say in the application that it is better to keep the site in place rather than remove it and put it back as it could cause unnecessary risk to the environment and was better for the underlying grounds.

The council was concerned if the bar was used between the two events it could cause disruption for residents through noise.

However, an email from property and projects manager Helen Simpson to planning officer Chris Balmer say this had not been the case.

She said: ’The Trackside was used during TT and will be used during the MGP period only. It was not used in the interim period.’

A further email from Mr Balmer confirms that the council had made its objection clear to the bar remaining in place.

He said: ’They have said the opposite, that they don’t want the pub remaining on the site in between events.’

This is despite claims from H&B that the council was ’happy in principle, subject to planning approval’.

Douglas Council also objected on the groundsthe proposal had the potential to limit use of a public recreational space.

However, while the planning application was accepted, it is understood that Douglas Council will not move from its position that the bar will not remain in place between the two events next year.

One councillor stated that the final decision as to whether the site remained in situ came down to the council as it owns the land and they couldn’t see the council moving on the issue given the strong feelings among members.
