A number of statues, depicting birds, ballerinas and streams of consciousness could be erected in the grounds of the Nunnery to form a sculpture trail.
Philip Vermuelen, of the International Centre for Technology Ltd, submitted the application ( 20/00321/B) for the site at The Nunnery, Old Castletown Road, Douglas.
The statues would comprise of four separate sculptures including one with three ballerinas and another with two of the dancers.
The other statues proposed include a flight of swallows and three ’streams of consciousness’.
All of the sculptures would be mounted on concrete plinths with lighting.
In the application, it is confirmed that Mr Vermuelen has purchased the statues from South Africa.
The flight of swallows statue is designed to show the spiral shape the birds taken when they fly as a flock.
The two groups of ballerinas show a trio and a duo in mid pivot on tip toes.
And the three streams of consciousness would see separate heads on their own plinths with a different patten on each.
At 5.8m high, the swallows would be the tallest of the sculptures.
Meanwhile, the ballerinas would be just over 2m tall and the heads 2.7m each.
The ballerina and consciousness statues would be illuminated from underneath using solar powered lighting and the swallows statue would be lit up using an LED light rope incorporated within an helical frame.
The rope lighting for the swallows, would also incorporate solar energy to power the lights.
According to the lighting report submitted as part of the application, the solar panels will be able to charge the lights sufficiently to operate for up to 12 hours a day.
