Manx Utilities is seeking permission to instal several electric charging points along Douglas promenades.
In the applications the authority said this forms part of the promenade regeneration scheme.
The MUA’s applications, show it plans to instal more than 20 of the charging points across Loch Promenade, Central Promenade, and Queen’s Promenade, all of which would be white.
In its applications, the MUA said the points are ’vital for the electrification of transport in order to meet the island’s target of next zero emissions by 2050’.
It added: ’The proposed charge points will be introduced in stages which will be dependent on the uptake of electric vehicles. Infrastructure will be installed below ground during the promenade regeneration to negate the requirement for future civil works.’
Starting at the Loch Promenade, the application (20/00951/B) is for two service charging pillars and five vehicle charging pedestals.
The two pillars would be located outside the Loch Promenade Methodist Church and the Loch Hotel Apartments. The charging pedestals would be spaced in between the two pillars including ones outside Paparazzi, Ellan Vannin Hotel and Gloucester House.
Further along Loch Promenade, the application (20/00953/B) is for three charging points outside the Falcon Hotel, Gresham and Rochester Court.
The application (20/00955/B) for Central Promenade focuses on six charging points that would be installed outside Spectrum Apartments while six charging points are due to be added (20/00952/B) adjacent to the IRIS pumping station on Queen’s Promenade.
Another application (20/00954/B) for Queen’s Promenade, would see points added to the Strathallan slip road which comes off Summer Hill adjacent to the Kaye Memorial Garden.
Last year Tynwald committed to a target of carbon neutrality by 2050, which will force many vehicle users to abandon patrol and diesel and switch to electric modes of transport.
