The Legion Players are bringing a single-act play to Laxey to raise money for charity.

The theatre supper night will be staged at The Institute next Saturday, September 19.

Tickets, priced £20 per person, are available now from Laxey Chemist and JJ Ribbons in the village plus Kinrade’s Pharmacy, Ballaquayle Road, Douglas.

Stephanie Gray will reprise her role as Violet Brimley in ’A National Treasure’ by Gill Medway, a 45-minute long production previously staged at Peel Centenary Centre.

The theatre supper to benefit Isle of Man Breast Care was organised by Garff MHK Daphne Caine, who explained: ’The Isle of Man is one of the rare places where people are able to go to the theatre and other cultural events and I was delighted that Stephanie agreed to bring the show to Laxey.

’A friend’s recent diagnosis of breast cancer is the reason I decided to make it a charity fundraiser.

’I hope it will be an entertaining evening that will also raise some money for a charity that supports women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in the island.’

Stephanie, takes the sole role of widow of the parish and woman of a certain age Violet, whose long and varied career was spent on her hands and knees - as a cleaning lady.

From pubs to posh houses this ’national treasure’ provides her clients with specialist services but there is so much more to the job than just cleaning and Violet reveals with a flick of her feather duster what really went on behind closed doors.

It is directed by Olga Gray.

It starts at 7pm with a two-course supper being served around 8pm. Doors will open from 6.30pm.

An alternative vegetarian meal will be available and members of the audience are also urged to bring their own drinks.
