Musicians will join together at a popular music venue in the south to raise money and awareness for mental health charities this weekend.

Eight bands will line up at Compton Vaults this Sunday, August 23, from 3pm, for ’Heavy Mental Health 2’, a day-long music festival which will raise money for three local mental health and wellbeing charities, ReachIOM, Isle Listen and Motiv8.

Among the bands taking part are Mad Daddy, the reformed Porn Monkey, Half Naked Headline, The Clown Calls For War, Slow Decay, Chris Flood, Al Bell and Ash Ashenafi.

There will also be stand up comedy and poetry throughout the day from storytellers Bill Strutt and Steve Goldsmith.

The day has been organised by the owner of Compton Vaults Juan Christian, who said that he is all too aware the problems of suffering with mental health.

He wants the day to help encourage others to feel able to seek out the charities and ask for help and advice should they feel they are in need of help.

’The south of the island in particular has lost some pretty incredible, talented and decent people,’ said Juan.

’People who have been taken away from us by their own actions and their own decisions, made through their own struggles with their mental health.

’There is a big problem with mental health treatment and awareness in the island and, even though recently we have been talking about it more, we are still not properly addressing it.

’There are people and organisations here in the island that can and will help and we have to get the message across that they are open and available for people to ring up, get in contact and seek help or advice.

’I myself have had a lot of help from the people at Motiv8 and I know what they offer and what help they can provide.

’They are there to help and I want to help get some awareness of these groups out there and help raise a load of money for them in the process.’

Juan held his first ’Heavy Mental Heath’ day last year, which proved successful.

l Tickets for ’Heavy Mental Heath 2’ are £15, available from the event’s Facebook page or on the door during the day.
