Two police officers and 16 cadets have raised £12,849 to help out the family of Savannah-May Cowell, a two-year-old from Ballasalla who is undergoing intensive chemotherapy treatments in Liverpool.
The two brain tumours left her with only 10% vision in her left eye, and she is now beginning the last stretch of her chemo course which will last 12 months.
PC Paddy Moore and fellow officer Mike Griffiths said they first found about the family’s predicament through a chance conversation at the garage where Savannah May’s father Si works.
Since then, funds were raised through donations from the public, the cadets doing bag packs in supermarkets and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.
Savannah-May’s mother Suzanne previously told the Examiner how the family had been hit by travel costs during the 18-month chemotherapy course she has just been through, which involved frequent back and forth trips to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
The family’s savings had been used up within the first ten weeks of treatment.
Though having a difficult time with the effects of the chemo, she has had the energy to crawl up stairs and enjoy some of her birthday cake.
Suzanne said: ’We would just like to thank everyone who has helped raise money for Savannah-May. We really do appreciate all the help, this money is going to help so much with Savannah’s care and trips away as we go in to the last section of her chemo which will last 12 months.
’The support and love that she has had is overwhelming and we are so grateful for everything that everyone has done.
’If you would like to follow Savannah’s Treatment and progress she has a page called "Savannah-May’s Journey" on Facebook - all are welcome.’
