Police have stepped up patrols in Onchan following a spate of youth nuisance incidents.
Detectives are investigating whether the tragic death of a grandmother in the village is linked to the anti-social behaviour.
On the evening of Tuesday August 11, police were called to an incident involving a number of youths who were causing annoyance to residents in Onchan Park area.
A short time later, Lesley Cubbon, 73, who was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, was found dead inside her home nearby. An inquest into her death opened this morning.
Police said they are continuing to make inquiries as to whether the two matters are linked.
A police spokesman said if such a link is established detectives will ascertain whether there is any criminal offence committed in relation to the lady’s death.
Police are working closely with the family an dpolicing in that area has been increased.
A number of adults and youths have been spoken to in relation to the investigation but as yet no arrests have been made.
The investigation is being led by CID and detectives would like to hear from anyone who has any information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Michelle McKillop, who is overseeing the investigation, said: ’The circumstances surrounding this incident are upsetting and concerning, we are looking closely at the facts.
’When this type of event happens there is an understandable concern within the community.
’Unfortunately this also breeds opinion and gossip particularly on social media.
’It is our job to determine the facts and do so correctly to then establish whether there is a link to the two events that would constitute a criminal offence, this particular area of law is complex.
’Regardless of the outcome of this inquiry our deepest sympathy goes to the family.’
