Police are warning business owners on island to review their security after an increase in burglaries at commercial premises.

A police statement said: ’Business premises are being targeted by burglars.

’In recent weeks we have seen an increase in commercial burglaries; these premises have all been unoccupied and cash and power tools have been taken.

’These burglaries have had a significant impact on people’s lives whether it’s the tools of the trade that have been stolen preventing them from working or cash that helped pay wages to staff.

’We want to remind business owners to reduce their chances of being a victim by removing what the burglars want - cash and items of value.

’At this time we are advising businesses to review their security whether this is adequate locks, CCTV or alarm systems.

’We would suggest banking all takings at the end of the day. We want to ensure that businesses are doing everything possible to reduce their chances of being the victim of a burglary. We will of course continue our patrols in all areas of the island.

’If anyone has any information on this matter they should contact us at Police HQ or use the anonymous crime-stoppers hotline 0800 555 111.’
