The proposed boundary extension of Port Erin has been withdrawn from this month’s Tynwald agenda.

Members had been expected to decide whether to back Port Erin’s attempt to take over the entirety of the Ballakilley Estate.

However Rushen Commissioners have now decided to try to claim the estate as their own and applied for the Department of Infrastructure to extend its boundary instead.

Just under 80 homes in the estate currently have services provided by Rushen Commissioners.

The change would result in 78 homes in the estate moving under Port Erin’s control, leaving householders to pay an extra £250 in rates on average.

A statement from the DoI said:’As this concerned the estate that is the subject of the proposed order, the Department has decided that it cannot now seek approval at the July sitting of Tynwald as planned.

’Discussions will take place with both local authorities over the coming months before determining how to proceed.’We will have more on this story in next week's Examiner, in shops Tuesday.
