The government has launched a consultation on legislation to reinforce the work of the island’s safeguarding bodies.

The Safeguarding Bill provides a statutory basis for the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. It also creates a new single Safeguarding Board to combine the roles of the Safeguarding Children Board and the Safeguarding Adults Partnership.

The establishment of a safeguarding body with powers and responsibilities in law is in line with previous recommendations approved by Tynwald.

Anyone wishing to take part in the consultation is encouraged to visit the government’s new consultation hub at www.consult.gov.im view the draft bill and submit feedback online.

The consultation closes on October 3.
