The latest information provided by the Department of Infrastructure for Ramsey quayside’s traffic and flood protection scheme has been discussed by the commissioners at their monthly meeting, which was held via telephone due to the lockdown.
In its report, the DoI stated that local fishermen had been consulted and had agreed to an extended loading bay opposite the Commercial Hotel, but this was queried by commissioner Wilf Young, who said he had been told by the Fishermen’s Association representative that no such consultation had taken place.
He also reiterated his opposition, not just to the loss of parking, but to the scheme as a whole.
Lead member for works and development, commissioner Ffinlo Williams apologised for ’sounding like a broken record’, but stated that he, and the rest of the board, did not want granite paving slabs and the department knew this.
’Slate would be preferable’, he added.
While Mr Williams declared himself happy with the proposed glass flood wall, others were not convinced it was the right thing for Ramsey.
After further discussion it was agreed to revert back to the DoI asking it to confirm that the fishermen had been consulted, to provide concrete proposals for parking solutions, to provide samples of the proposed granite slabs and the slate alternative, and to say who would be responsible for the maintenance of the glass flood barrier.
