Government workers have voted to accept a three-year pay deal – that will also see more money for Tynwald members.
A ballot of Public Service Commission employees voted overwhelmingly in support of the deal which comprises a 55p an hour increase backdated to April followed by a 2.5% increase next year and 2.75% in year three.
It comes as a postal workers threaten to walk out next week after voting in support of strike action in a dispute over proposed changes to pay and conditions.
The 55p an hour increase will give civil servants, government manual workers and Tynwald members an extra £1,062 this year.
It means lower paid staff receive a higher percentage increase compared to those on higher pay.
Mick Hewer, negotiations officer for the civil service union Prospect, welcomed the positive ballot result which was announced at noon today (Friday) via the Manx Industrial Relations Service.
He said: ‘We carried out a ballot of our members and made a recommendation to accept the offer.
‘It provides some stability and certainty moving forward, not only for our members as they know what they will be receiving by way of an increase in their salaries over the next couple of years, but also for Treasury and the employers.’
Each 1% increase in pay for PSC employees equates to a cost of £1.2m on the government’s pay bill of £120m per annum. This will be met from existing and future budgets. The PSC employs 3,400 full-time equivalent civil servants and manual and craft workers.
