The Isle of Man Green Party is to hold a number of public meetings ahead of its election campaign for 2020.
The first is tonight.
It launched its election campaign for next year’s local elections last week at the Falcon’s Nest Hotel in Port Erin.
The party’s election strategist Leo Cussons told people there how to prepare and run an election campaign.
The Green Party says it intends to offer voters in April 2020 an opportunity to vote in favour of a sustainable future for the Isle of Man.
The party believe that global change is enabled by actions taken at the local level.
In March 2019, the leader of Braddan Commissioners, Andrew Jessopp, who’s a Green Party member, chaired the first political body to declare a climate emergency in the Isle of Man.
The party’s public meetings will focus on the role and functions of a local politician, how to campaign in an election, and the change the Party will deliver once elected.
Meetings will be held at on the following dates:
Monday, November 25: 6.30pm, Columba Club, Circular Road, Douglas
Wednesday, December 4: 7pm, Whitehoue, Tynwald Road, Peel
Wednesday, December 11: - 7pm, Mitre, Parliament Street, Ramsey
The party says it has a growing membership.
This year the party received the endorsement and a donation of £.2000 from former Environment Minister, John Rimington.
As well as being an MHK, Mr Rimington was previously the National Membership Secretary for the New Zealand Green Party and had the same role with the Welsh Green Party.
Mr Rimingon said: ’There is an increasing urgency to address climate change.
’I am happy to support the Isle of Man Green Party as the only coherent voice seeking to make the radical changes needed. I support their commitment to seek a political voice at both local and national level.’
